Dr. Allen is a board-certified ophthalmologist, obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree from Duke University in Durham, NC. He completed his clinical internship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, and his ophthalmology residency at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Allen has extensive experience, having practiced previously in Peoria, Illinois, at Illinois eye Center, where he was an Associate Professor at University of Illinois College of Medicine, as well at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Dr. Allen has been practicing comprehensive ophthalmology for 17 years and has performed over 12,000 cataract and refractive procedures. Dr. Allen has been performing LASIK, PRK, and LASEK procedures since 2001, and is certified on the IntraLase, Visx, Nidek, and Allegretto laser platforms for Laser Vision Correction procedures.
Dr. Allen lectures frequently, having spoken at both international and local meetings. He has written numerous articles in the field of cataract surgery as well as a book chapter on multifocal lens implantation. In 2005 he was one of the first ophthalmologists in South Florida to be certified by Alcon for its ReSTOR® Multifocal Intraocular Lens implant procedure, and in 2014 was one of the first surgeons in South Florida to be certified to perform Laser Cataract Surgery. In 2010 and again in 2016, he was named to the prestigious “Premium Surgeon” PS250/PS300 list for his accomplishments in the field of advanced refractive lens implants for cataract surgery. In 2011 he was asked to serve on the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery “Complicated Cataract Surgery” subcommittee.
Dr. Allen is passionate about providing personalized attention to every patient to be able to understand their needs and concerns and provide the highest level of care.
His professional memberships include American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Martin County Medical Society, and Palm Beach Society of Ophthalmology. He is fluent in both Spanish and English.
