Modern Glaucoma Treatments
Overview
Glaucoma care has advanced significantly, offering patients more choices than ever before. At Florida Vision Institute, we provide traditional and leading-edge treatments designed to lower eye pressure safely and protect long-term vision. Our goal is to create a personalized plan that fits your lifestyle—often with approaches that reduce or eliminate the need for daily eye drops.
Advancing Care with DSLT
Florida Vision Institute is proud to offer Voyager™ Direct Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (DSLT), a breakthrough non-contact laser therapy for patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
DSLT works similarly to Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) by targeting the eye’s natural drainage system to improve outflow and reduce pressure. What sets DSLT apart is its automated, non-contact delivery—meaning no lens touches the eye during treatment. Many patients find this approach more comfortable and efficient than traditional SLT.
Your doctor will recommend DSLT, SLT, or another approach based on your diagnosis, treatment goals, and lifestyle preferences.
Quick Facts About Voyager™ DSLT
- Non-contact delivery with anesthetic drops only
- Treatment time typically under 10 minutes per eye
- No lens touches the eye—comfortable and precise
- Return to normal activities the same day
- Clinically shown to lower eye pressure with an excellent safety profile
- May help reduce or eliminate daily glaucoma drops
What to Expect During the Procedure
After numbing drops are applied, you will sit comfortably while the laser system automatically tracks your eye and delivers gentle light pulses through the clear surface of the cornea. These pulses reach the trabecular meshwork—the eye’s natural drainage tissue—to help lower pressure.
The treatment lasts only seconds, and most patients experience little to no discomfort. Mild blurring may occur for a few hours, and your doctor will schedule follow-up visits to monitor your results.
Who Might Benefit from DSLT
DSLT may be an excellent option for patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension seeking a drop-reducing or drop-free treatment approach.
It can also be considered before or alongside cataract surgery to support long-term pressure control and visual outcomes.
Other Advanced Glaucoma Treatments
Depending on your needs, additional procedures may be recommended. At Florida Vision Institute, we also offer:
- Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), a proven treatment using a targeted laser with a small contact lens.
- Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), performed alone or during cataract surgery to enhance the eye’s natural drainage pathways.
Your ophthalmologist will review all options with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your diagnosis and eye-pressure goals.
